Walk A​

Short walk approximately 1.1km from Turks Head around meadows and lanes.

​

Can be muddy in places, not suitable for push-chairs or wheelchairs.

 

1. Leave the car park and turn left on-to Low Road, take this road for 100 metres to footpath on the right-hand side of the road where the row of houses end.

 

2. Follow this path on a slight down-ward gradient to the obvious gap in the hedge facing you, approximately 200 metres from the road.

3. The path deviates slightly to the left as it passes over the water mead-ows, on the far side you will find two small wooden bridges that cross a small stream, approximate-ly 110m.

 

4. You are now on Riverside Road, turn right and walk along the small road for 320 metres until a footpath sign is found in the hedging on the right.

 

5. Take the pathway into more water meadows continue in a relatively straight line after passing over a small bridge. After 165 metres, you reach the edge of the water mead- ows where a small stream can be found.

6. Take the path on the left-hand side of the stream and follow be-tween hedge and stream to the road, approximately 115 metres.

 

7. You join the road on a sharp bend, turn right and walk up the slope back to The Turks Head (100 me-tres) where drinks and refresh-ments may be obtained.

Walk B​

Short walk approximately 2.1km from Turks Head round meadows and fields to the south and west.

 

Can be muddy in places, not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs.

 

1. Leave the car park and turn right down the hill (100m).

 

2. At the sharp corner you will see a footpath sign on your left at the far side of Lantern House. Follow this path at the side of the small stream. (150m).

3. Just after the bend in the stream the path follows the right-hand hedge along the water meadow. On the far side of this meadow pass through the gates into pad-docks. Keep to the right of these paddocks passing through further gates. (400m)

 

4. You now enter arable farm land and walk a short distance with the hedge on your left. At the hedge corner the path goes across the field towards the road junction in front. Then along the field edge to your left crossing onto a hard standing at the road corner. (260m)

5. Take the pathway up and across the field towards the right-hand corner of the small wood in front, on reaching the woods turn right across the field passing the pole on your left. (350m)

 

6. Reaching Mill Lane take the path di-rectly opposite you and continue in a straight line until you reach the road. (150m).

 

7. On joining Low Road continue straight along the road until reaching The Turks Head

Walk C

Short walk approximately 4.5km from Turks Head around meadows and fields to the north and east.

 

Can be muddy in places, not suitable for push-chairs or wheelchairs.

 

1. Leave The Turks Head car park by turning left along the road to a foot-path on the left hand side of the road between two hedges. (100m)

 

2. Turn left along footpath to paddocks at the far end, pass through these diagonally to a gate in the opposing corner. Go through the gate and turn right along the track, in front of Red Barn, to the road. (560m)

3. Cross the road and continue along field edge, hedge on your right. Just prior to reaching the top of the field there is a small bridge over the ditch on your right, cross this and turn left into the woods. Follow the path through the woods to pad-docks on the far side. The path con-tinues between paddocks and hedge until reaching the road, after a few twists and turns. (780m)

 

4. At the road turn right and continue to junction with Boulge Road where you need to turn right for 120m to a small entrance prior to Highfield Cottage. (700m)

 

5. You will see a stile to the left of the gate, once over this go across the meadow to the gate in the far-right corner. After passing through the gate cross into the field and turn right for a short distance prior turning left after entering the adjacent field. Follow the edge of the field with the hedge on you left. At the end of the field pass through into the next field and continue in similar direc-tion to the far side of this field where a gap in the hedge can be found with a footpath sign. (740m)

6. After passing through the gap turn right and continue in this direction through two metal gates onto a concrete roadway. The hedge along this stretch is on your right. Continue along the roadway until you reach Blacksmith Road. (760m)

 

7. Turn right along the road prior to taking the footpath on the left just past the small cottage (70m). Take this path passing paddocks until a footpath sign indicates a path to the right go along this into the church yard of St Andrew’s pass-ing out of the lych gate onto Church Road. (500m)

 

8. On arriving at Church Road turn right to the T junction where you turn left. Continue straight on to Top Road where The Turks Head will be visible on your right. (410m)

Walk D

Short walk approximately 7.9km From Turks Head to Boulge and Hasketon Churches.

 

Can be muddy in places, not suitable for push-chairs or wheelchairs.

​

1. Leave The Turks Head car park turning left onto Low Road, continue until reaching Church Road where you turn right to the footpath at the lower church lych gate. (410m).

 

2. Pass through the church yard of St An-drew’s and along pathway until reaching junction of paths, then turn left up the slope until reaching Blacksmiths Road. (410m)

 

3. Turn right at the road for 70m then take the track on your left signed Home Farm. Con-tinue along this track until reaching a metal field gate. Pass through this and the next gate with the hedge on your left. Approxi-mately 230m after the second gate there is a footpath sign on your left over a small wooden bridge, take this path. (760m)

4. Go along this field, hedge now on your right, at the end of field turn right into an adjacent field. Walk directly across this field to the closest corner of the opposite hedge then continue into another larger field in front. Here you need to walk directly across the field on a course slightly diago-nally left. This will take you to a small copse on the far side where footpath signs and small bridge can be found. (960m)

 

5. After crossing bridge follow pathway through copse to fields on far side. Here you will continue along the edge of the field with the hedge on your right until reaching the road. At the road turn left and continue until reaching Red Lodge where a track can be found on your right. (1.36km)

 

6. Take the track past Red Lodge House to an open pasture, here turn right along a grass track to a hedge with large ditches either side. At this point there is a wood to your front left, walk across the field to the right hand corner nearest to you. 7. Then along pathway running along the edge of the wood until reaching the church of St Michael’s at Boulge. (940m)

8. After viewing the fine church and yard, return along the route you came until reaching the track adjacent to Red Lodge. This time con-tinue along the meadow with hedges and woods to your left. Keep on this waymarked path over stiles until reaching the road. (1.44km)

 

9. Turn right along the road until locating a gap on your left just after Hasketon House. Take this path and walk around paddocks before entering a wooded area. Pass through the wood and a short way along the field a gap opens with a small bridge, cross and turn left following the edge of the field to the road. (900m)

 

10. Cross the road to follow the track facing you until reaching a wooden gate and footpath signs on your left between Red Barn and White House. Take the pathway through the paddocks and along the avenue of trees at the opposite side. On reaching the road turn right back to The Turks Head where drinks and refreshments may be purchased. (650m)

Walk E

Short walk approximately 2.7km from St Mary’s Church, Grundisburgh with views across the River Lark.

 

Can be muddy in places, not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs.

​

1. From The Green take the path along Woodbridge Road, with St Mary’s church on your left until reaching the B1079 road. (410m)

 

2. For safety take the pathway through Lyttleton Meadow re-joining B1079 at the far end. Cross the road and follow path to short Cul de Sac as main road rises. Take the path on the left as you enter. (200m)

3. On entering the field go diagonal-ly to the right crossing a bridge over the River Lark to gate on far side. Go through the gate and turn right keeping close to the hedge. After passing through the next gate continue in the same direction until passing over a cov-ered ditch, then go left to a gate in the hedge. (470m)

 

4. In this field take a line that contin-ues straight heading for the cor-ner of a hedge that can be seen at the top of the rise. A wooden bench can be found here to enjoy the views. From the bench con-tinue along the edge of the field with hedge on your left, pass through two hedges until a wood can be seen in front of you. (220m)

 

5. Pass across the field to the bottom edge of the wood, then walk around the bottom of the wood until a foot-path sign is found pointing across the next field. Take the path across this field to reach Mill Lane, the pole should be on your left. (590m)

6. Reaching Mill Road take the path directly opposite you and continue in a straight line until you reach Low Road. (150m).

 

7. On joining the road continue straight along to road until reaching The Turks Head which will be on your left where drinks and refreshments may be obtained. (630m)

Walk F

Short walk approximately 2.8km from St Mary’s Church Grundisburgh to The Turks Head along river and streams.

 

Can be muddy in places, not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs.

1. From The Green take the path along Woodbridge Road, with St Mary’s church on your left until reaching the B1079 road. (410m)

 

2. For safety take the pathway through Lyttleton Meadow re-joining B1079 at the far end. Cross the road and follow path to short cul de sac as main road rises. Take the path on the right prior to the last house. (230m)

3. After going through a short fenced path you emerge onto farmland. Keep to the left side of the field adjacent to the hedge until meeting with the River Lark. (480m)

 

4. Continue along the side of the river, over a bridge until meeting Mill Lane, turn left along the road until the junction with Watery Lane. (840m)

 

5. At the road junction take the footpath across the field on your right directly to the nearest corner of the opposite hedge. Follow the hedge to the left for a short distance passing over a small bridge and through a gate. Keeping close to the hedge now on your left walk through two paddocks and associated gates. Eventually reaching water meadows. (360m)

6. Continue through the water meadow keeping the hedge on your left until reaching a small stream. Take the path between stream and hedge, putting the stream on your right. Continue until reaching the road. (320m)

 

7. You join the road on a sharp bend, turn right and walk up the slope towards The Turks Head where drinks and refreshments may be obtained. (100m)

Walk G

Short walk approximately 4.2km fto The Turks Head from Market Hill, Woodbridge.

 

Can be muddy in places, not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs.

1. From the Woodbridge Shire Hall on Market Hill walk into Theatre Street, continuing along Burkitt Road prior to joining Hasketon Road and eventually emerging at the A12 adjacent to the pedestrian lights. (1.2km)

 

2. After using the lights to cross the A12 take the path that runs adjacent to the hedge up to the junction with Manor Road. Here you need to turn left where a track with footpath sign can be clearly seen on the opposite side of the road. (250m)

3. Go along the track with Hasketon Manor on your left and The Old Dairy on your right then entering open farm land, here the path goes to the left of the hedge and down a gradual slope. (340m)

 

4. Walk along the edge of the field with the hedge on your right. At the bottom of the hill go through the gate, over a bridge, into a narrow field where another gate with a bridge can be seen opposite. (350m)

 

5. After crossing the second bridge continue up the gradual slope with the hedge on your left to a gate at the top of the field. Pass through this gate and go diagonally across the field to a gate in the top hedge about 70m to the right of Home Farm. (370m)

6. Go through this metal gate and continue along left side of field to a track. Then through an avenue of trees on the far side along this track and then left on the tarmac roadway until reaching the junction with Boulge Road. (680m)

 

7. At Boulge Road turn left and then immediately right along Chimney Pot Lane to a track on the left at the bottom of the slope. Follow the track un til reaching a wooden gate and foot path signs on your left between Red Barn and White House. Take the pathway through the paddocks and along the avenue of trees at the opposite side. On reaching the road turn right to The Turks Head where drinks and refreshments may be purchased. (980m)

Walk H

Short walk approximately 5.4km from Post Office Lane, Martlesham to The Turks Head along lanes, fields and meadows..

​

Can be muddy in places, not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs.

​

1. Walk along road between houses into field, cross over the field to the railway crossing. On reaching the far side of the tracks continue in straight line across the field to bot-tom of A12 embankment. Here turn left down the field and pass through a tunnel under the A12. (740m)

 

2. After passing through the tunnel there is a junction of tracks, turn right parallel to the A12 then follow the field boundary to the left until joining a track that takes you to Cherry Tree Farm (ignore the track prior to the buildings). At the far side of the buildings the track forks, continue along the right-hand fork. (630m)

3. Continue up the track until you meet Seckford Hall Road where you turn right. On reaching the entrance to Seckford Hall Hotel a footpath sign is visible on the left. Take this pathway, then onto the track that leads to Wood Barn Cottages. (1.65km)

 

4. Take the obvious footpath to the right of the buildings that cuts between two fields. On reaching the hedge on the far side turn right then after 40m turn left along an-ther field with the hedge on your right. At the end of this field the path forks, take the left-hand fork then continue along an obvious path between hedges until reaching the B1079 Grundisburgh Road. (740m)

 

5. On reaching the road take care and cross to reach the end of Shrubbery Road opposite, follow the road down the hill. Approximately 90m after a sharp left hand bend in the road a stile with footpath sign is on your right. (650m)

6. Climb the stile, cross the field and over the next stile following an obvious footpath through a small wood. Continue up the slope with hedge on your left and paddocks to the right until a footpath sign is found indicating a turn to the left, St Andrew’s Church can be seen at this point. (320m)

 

7. Take the footpath down the slope to the church and road after passing through the churchyard and lych gate. At the road turn right to the T junction with Blacksmiths Road where a left turn is required that will take you to Top Road and The Turks Head where refreshments and drinks may be purchased. (680m)

Walk I

Short walk approximately 4.4km from St An-drew’s Church Bredfield to The Turks Head across fields and pastures. Plenty of wildlife and flowers.

​

Can be muddy in places, not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs.

​

1. This walk commences on a footpath that passes through the north side of St Andrew’s church yard and continues through the gates at the rear of the church into open countryside along a well-defined pathway. At end of field cross the ditch over the bridge to a footpath sign. (300m)

 

2. From the sign cross the field at a slight angle to your left heading for a gap in the hedge approximately 75m to the left of Partridge Farm. The footpath sign in this hedge can be seen after walking just a short distance. Pass through the hedge and go directly across the next field to another footpath sign and through the gap in the hedge over a small bridge. (730m)

3. As you pass through the hedge a track can be seen on the opposite side of the road (Scotts Lane) on your left with sign to Boulge Church and footpath signs. Cross the field to these signs, after crossing the road walk along the track to a T junction, taking the right-hand fork head-ing towards Bougle Church. (540m)

 

4. At the end of the paddock on your left, just before the turn to the church, take the path that goes between the paddock and garden/wood heading away from the church. At the end of the wood there is a large cedar tree, from this point head across the field to your left to a point mid-way between two old oak trees. Part way across the field the gateway to which you are heading is visible. Pass through the gateway and head along a rough grass track across open meadows. (Dogs must be on leads in this area). A larger track can be seen in front that heads towards a large red brick house. Do not take this track, but continue along the meadow adjacent to the hedge and woods on your left-hand side. This will take you to stiles into a small wood prior to reaching the road. (1.3km)

5. Turn right along the road until locating a gap in the hedge with a small wood bridge on your left just after Hasketon House. Take this path and walk around two paddocks before entering a wooded area. Pass through the wood and a short way along the field a gap opens with a small bridge, cross and turn left following the edge of the field to the road. (900m)

 

6. Cross the road to follow the track facing you until reaching a wooden gate and footpath signs on your left between Red Barn and White House. Take the pathway through the paddocks and along the avenue of trees at the opposite side. On reaching the road turn right back to The Turks Head where drinks and refreshments may be purchased. Walk J

The Turks Head from Little Bealings, via Seckford Hall. Along rivers, through fields and meadows.

​

Can be muddy in places, not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs.

​

1. The walk starts adjacent to the telephone Kiosk opposite the old Admiral’s Head Public House, Little Bealings. Take the track away from the road that goes to the rear of Dower House, just prior to the white gates at the end of the track a footpath sign can be seen on your left. (300m)

 

2. Take this into open countryside so the woods are on your right. The path is rea-sonably well defined but unfortunately not well signed). Continue through fields in roughly a straight line until reaching a small bridge that crosses the Rive Lark near its confluence with the River Fynn. (1.1km)

 

3. Continue over the bridge in the same straight line until reaching the left bank of the River Fynn. Follow the river, until it disappears under the A12 road, then follow the embankment that carries the A12 road until a tunnel is found under the road. (600m)

4. Continue following the embankment to the field corner then turn left, away from the road, until joining a track that takes you to Cherry Tree Farm (ignore the track prior to the buildings). At the far side of the buildings the track forks, con-tinue along the right-hand fork up the slope. (630m)

 

5. Continue up the track until you meet Seckford Hall Road where you turn right. On reaching the entrance to Seckford Hall a footpath sign is visible on the left. Take this pathway coming out onto a track that leads to Wood Barn Cottages. (1.65km)

 

6. Take the obvious footpath to the right of the buildings that cuts between two fields. At the road turn right to the T junction with Blacksmith’s Road where a lieft turn is required that will take you via Top Road to The Turks Head where refreshments and drinks may be purchased. (680m)

Walk K

Short walk approximately 7.1km to The Turks Head from Playford, via The Bealings and Grundisburgh.​

​

Can be muddy in places, not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs.

​

1. The walk starts at the junction of Hill Farm Road and Church Road in Play-ford following the beautiful Fynn Valley Walk. Walk away from the village along Hill Farm Road for approximately 80m then take the obvious and signed foot-path to the left that rises above the road and farm buildings. Continue along this well signed and defined path through open fields until reaching Little Bealings. (1.0km)

 

2. On reaching the tarmac road of Sandy Lane follow this to the right until reach-ing The Street adjacent to the old Admiral’s Head Public House. (At this point it is possible to follow the alternative route to The Turks Head as described in Walk J). Turn left along the road to the next junction, just prior to the Village Hall, turn left into Holly Lane where a foot-path sign can be found on the right after a short distance. (530m)

 

3. After leaving the road take the footpath that goes diagonally left across the middle of the field eventually descending to wood land and meadows. Continue to follow the signed and well defined foot-path through a series a gates and fields until reaching Boot Street at Great Bealings adjacent to the River Lark bridge. (880m)

4. At the road turn left along Boot Street for a short distance then take the signed footpath on the right. Follow this path through fields and meadows. As you pass along this path you will have water meadows and woods on your right until reaching The Driftway at Grundisburgh. (1.17km)

 

5. On entering The Driftway continue forwards to Lower Road where you turn left towards the village, after 280m turn right into Chapel Lane where at the top you join Chapel Road continue straight on passing the Chapel on your right. After some distance, you will locate Half Moon Lane on your right take this road all the way to its junction with B 1079 Woodbridge Road. Cross the road onto the pavement and turn right for a short distance, then into a cul de sac that will be on your left. (1.32km)

 

6. Take the footpath on the right immediately prior to the last house. After going through a short fenced path, you emerge onto farmland. Keep to the left side of the field adjacent to the hedge until meeting with the River Lark. (480m)

 

7. Continue along the side of the river, over a bridge until meeting Mill Lane, turn left along the road until the junction with Watery Lane. (840m)

8. At the road junction take the footpath across the field on your right directly to the nearest corner of the opposite hedge. Follow the hedge to the left for a short distance passing over a small bridge and through a gate. Keeping close to the hedge now on your left walk through two paddocks and associated gates. Eventually reaching water meadows. (360m)

 

9. Continue through the water meadow keeping the hedge on your left until reaching a small stream. Take the path between stream and hedge, putting the stream on your right. Contin-ue until reaching the road. (320m)

 

10. You join the road on a sharp bend, turn right and walk up the slope back to The Turks Head where drinks and refreshments may be ob-tained. (100m)
